Understanding the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act / Información Sobre La Ley Del Manejo Sostenible Del Agua Subterránea Del 2014

Join us on August 20th from 6-8 PM for a stakeholder workshop on California’s new groundwater law

In 2014, the California legislature passed a new law known as the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act of 2014 (SGMA). This law identifies 515 groundwater basins and requires local agencies in each of those basins to form Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) to manage the groundwater within their boundaries in a sustainable manner. To achieve the goal of sustainability, SGMA gives these agencies new powers including the ability to regulate, suspend, and impose fees on groundwater pumping. As a result, the formation of Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) is an important process that will greatly affect all groundwater users.

To help stakeholders better understand the new groundwater management legislation and the role that water and land use agencies play in the implementation of the law, the workshop will cover:

1)      The Sustainable Groundwater Management Act of 2014;

2)      The process and timeline for the formation of local Groundwater Sustainability Agencies;

3)      Options and opportunities for local service providers; and

4)      Activities to date in the Kings sub-basins (Fresno and Tulare counties)

Location:  Riverdale Memorial Hall

3085 W Mt. Whitney Ave, Riverdale, CA 93656

Hosted by Kings River Conservation District, Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability and Community Water Center

*This workshop will be presented in both English and Spanish

1)      La Ley del Manejo Sostenible del Agua Subterránea del 2014;

2)      El proceso y fechas claves para la creación de las Agencias de Sostenibilidad;

3085 W Mt. Whitney Ave, Riverdale, CA 93656

Organizado por El Distrito de Conservación del Rio Kings, El Consejo de Liderazgo para la Justicia y Responsabilidad, y El Centro Comunitario Por el Agua
