Sustainable Groundwater Management Act Workshop - October 1st

Join us on October 1st, from 5-7 PM for a workshop on California’s new groundwater law

In 2014, the California legislature passed a new law known as the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act of 2014 (SGMA). This law identifies 515 groundwater basins and requires local agencies in each of those basins to form Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) to manage the groundwater within their boundaries in a sustainable manner. To achieve the goal of sustainability, SGMA gives these agencies new powers including the ability to regulate, suspend, and impose fees on groundwater pumping. As a result, the formation of Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) is an important process that will greatly affect all groundwater users.

To help local service providers better understand the new law and the role that water agencies play in the implementation of the law, the workshop will cover:

  1. The Sustainable Groundwater Management Act of 2014;
  2. Options and opportunities for local service providers;
  3. The process and timeline for the formation of local Groundwater Sustainability Agencies
  4. Activities to date in the Kern subbasin

  1. La Ley del Manejo Sostenible del Agua Subterránea del 2014;
  2. El proceso y fechas claves para la creación de las Agencias de Sostenibilidad;
