Safe Drinking Water Plan Workshops

The State of California recently released a draft Safe Drinking Water Plan, replete with confirmation that Safe and Affordable Drinking Water is a Human Right and that the state is committed to making that right a reality.

Still, as the Plan itself confirms, tens of thousands of Californians live each day without access to clean and affordable drinking water, with individuals and families in small, low income communities, the most vulnerable of all.

The Plan lays out obstacles to clean drinking water from contaminated drinking water sources, to the high cost of treatment, to the impacts of a historic drought, to local and state level structural inefficiencies. Recommendations include creation of a permanent source of funds to mitigate the expense of treating contaminated water, and measures to promote long term sustainability through regional approaches to the provision of drinking water.

But does this Draft Plan go far enough?

Through written comments and participation at public workshops you can provide input on what may be missing from this Plan, and what measures must be taken to ensure that safe and affordable drinking water flows from the taps that serve California's schools and homes. The Draft Plan is available HERE.
