  • Construction is moving forward on two DW projects

  • Community partners take advocacy to Sacramento

  • Speaker Pro-Tem leads Water Justice Support

Dear Supporter,

We are pleased to share that progress is underway in two drinking water infrastructure projects! On Springfield Road in rural Monterey County, the pipes that connect individual homes to a water main line - called laterals - are being connected to more than 150 homes. These pipes will provide safe water to the people living on Springfield Road who have been living with nitrate contamination for 20 years. Construction is scheduled to wrap up towards the end of the year, after which you will find us celebrating with community partners!

In East Orosi in the San Joaquin Valley the state ordered a consolidation and now construction is moving forward to bring safe water into the community. This moment has been years in the making and we are excited that community partners are seeing flags marking construction to start! East Orosi has faced too many injustices from high nitrate contamination spanning more than 20 years and corrupt waste water billing but they have also created paths to solutions through sustained organizing, local leadership changes and advocacy on state-level policy reform. We cannot wait to celebrate a groundbreaking as we see the Human Right to Water become a reality for this community and safe water flowing to about 400 residents that have waited too long for justice.

Adelante,

Susana De Anda

Co-Founder and Executive Director

Residents Raise Alarm on SAFER

Community partners meeting with Dr. Joaquin Arambula to talk about SAFER.

In March,18 community partners from the Central Coast and the San Joaquin Valley traveled to Sacramento to hold 17 meetings with decision makers at the Capitol. Their ask was clear -  we cannot afford a $38 million shortfall in SAFER this year risking emergency water resources and delays in long term solutions for safe drinking water.

Community partners shared their stories describing how a lack of safe and affordable drinking water currently impacts their lives. Decision makers listened and we were encouraged to see they understand the urgency of the situation. To protect the full $130 million annual funding for SAFER,  California leadership needs to reinstate SAFER backfill funding to make sure we don’t fall short on the SAFER promise.

State Leadership Speaks Up for Water Justice

Senator Pro Tempore Monique Limon (right) receiving the Legislative Champion award from  Executive Director Susana De Anda (left) and Policy Director Kelsey Hinton (center).

We celebrated our 2026 Water Justice Leadership Awards with a packed gathering where we raised over $50,000 for water justice! It was an inspiring night where we held space for policy makers, allies, and community partners to connect on how to move water issues forward. A big thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the 10th edition of these awards and honor 20 years of the water justice movement as Community Water Center.

At this powerful event, we honored people who are advancing the Human Right to Water including: Senator Pro Tempore Monique Limon, Maria Luisa & Lisa Muñoz from the Central Valley, Silverio and Ana Maria Perez from the Central Coast, Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability, Clean Water Action, and the State Water Board.  We want to provide a special thank you for our sponsors below who made this night possible!

It’s never too late to support the Water Justice Movement here.
