Walnut Avenue
Project Status
The City of Greenfield has begun moving forward with the planning phase of a consolidation project to serve those identified in the CWC Walnut Avenue Project.
Background
Just outside of the City of Greenfield, California, many households in the Walnut Avenue, 14th St, and 12th St & Pine St area receive water from private wells contaminated with nitrate and 1,2,3-trichloropropane (123-TCP) at levels much higher than public health standards. Other households are served by small water systems that lack backup water sources and/or require high costs per household to run and maintain due to the low number of connections. There have been efforts to work toward a long-term drinking water solution in this community since 2017. CWC began work in this area in 2023.
El Comité para tener Agua Sana, Limpia, y Económica en Greenfield (The Committee for Clean, Safe, and Affordable Drinking Water in Greenfield) was formed in November 2023 by community members concerned about contamination in their wells. Since then CWC and the Walnut Ave community have been working together towards a long-term drinking water solution.
Project Area
All households in the area are currently served by private wells or small public, state, or local water systems.
